About the Campaign

"Click Wisely — The Web Remembers" is an interactive awareness campaign created to promote Cyber Ethics — the moral principles that guide our behavior online. In today’s digital age, every click, share, and post leaves a trace. Through this campaign, we aim to remind people that technology should be used responsibly, respectfully, and ethically.

The website includes interactive features such as a Cyber Quiz, a Phishing Detection Game, and a Cyber Pledge — encouraging users to learn, play, and commit to ethical online behavior. It also highlights real-world examples of cybercrimes and solutions to prevent them.

Our goal is to make cybersecurity awareness engaging and approachable, so that everyone understands that being safe online starts with being ethical online.

Case Studies in Cyber Ethics

📘 Facebook–Cambridge Analytica (2018)

In 2018, data from over 87 million Facebook users was collected through a quiz app without their consent and used to create psychological profiles for political advertisements during the US elections and Brexit. This incident raised serious ethical questions about privacy, transparency, and informed consent. Facebook faced a $5 billion fine and widespread criticism, which led to stricter data protection regulations like the GDPR.

💻 WannaCry Ransomware Attack (2017)

The WannaCry ransomware spread across 150+ countries, encrypting data and demanding Bitcoin payments. It disrupted hospitals, railways, and businesses, revealing how neglecting software updates and exploiting vulnerabilities can have global consequences. The event underlined the need for ethical hacking, cybersecurity education, and responsible system management.

🤖 Deepfakes and AI Ethics (2023–Present)

The rise of AI-powered deepfakes — hyper-realistic fake videos and voices — has sparked new ethical concerns. Deepfakes can be used for misinformation, fraud, or defamation, challenging society’s trust in digital media. This issue emphasizes the importance of consent, authenticity, and accountability in AI-driven technologies, reminding us that innovation must always be balanced with ethics.

🧠 Reflection

These cases show that technology itself isn’t ethical or unethical — it’s how humans choose to use it that defines its impact. Cyber ethics is not just about laws; it’s about integrity, awareness, and responsibility. As digital citizens, we must ensure that progress in technology goes hand in hand with compassion, privacy, and respect for others.
